Are You Paying for Healthcare or Sickness Care?

ARE YOU PAYING FOR HEALTHCARE OR SICKNESS CARE?

In 2008, the U.S. spent over 2.3 trillion dollars on the healthcare industry. That means, for every $1 spent, 15¢ goes to healthcare. But are we really paying for true “healthcare?” A pharmaceutical system that accidently kills about 200,000 Americans and spends over $100 billion on adverse drug reactions surely cannot be called “health”care. Some 85% of all drugs prescribed are intended to be used for a lifetime. Over 80% of those drugs just treat symptoms (and not effectively), not the cause!

Our medical industry is in the business of managing illness by treating symptoms.
Physicians have neither the time nor the training to address the underlying causes.

Is this healthcare or sickness care?  Is our medical industry in the business of healing or just managing illness?  In the middle of all this “sickness” care, the need for something better has strongly surfaced.
Today’s “sickness care” is focused on treating symptoms not the underlying causes.  Scientists finally agree that in order for true healing to occur, one cannot separate the mind from the body.  In order to truly heal the body, we must heal the mind.  For many of us, the idea of  a mind-body connection makes sense, but for a long time, we’ve lacked its scientific explanation.
Dr. Christiane Northrup, Harvard Medical School MD,   in her book Women’s Bodies Women’s Wisdom finally gives us the scientific explanation of the mind-body connection .  She also explains  how it is that our thoughts, feelings and beliefs translate into physical responses like pain and illness.   Dr. Northrup emphasizes that we cannot heal the body without healing the mind.
She goes on to clarify that we actually do our “thinking” on a cellular level.  That explains so much for us.  Neuropeptides are the key.  We have a “mind” in every cell containing neuropeptides.  These neuropeptides release a chemical called neurotransmitters which are like phone wires that permit one cell to instantaneously communicate with another.
This explains how our thoughts and their underlying beliefs (i.e. I’m bad, I’m stupid, I’m ugly, nobody loves me, etc.)  create physical responses which we thought were  limited to emotions like anger, sadness and fear.  We now know these beliefs effect every part of our biological system  and can cause not only chronic emotional conditions like anxiety and depression, but also pain and illness.  What we believe and think can make us either healthy or sick.
As we work to find out how to get to real healing, it helps to know that our mind follows some very specific rules which have been outlined by Gerald Kein of the Omni Hypnosis Training Center.  To understand more of how your mind works, access the web and go to www.itakecareofme.com..

The Seven rules of the Mind

1. Every thought or idea causes a physical response.
2. What the mind expects to happen tends to be realized.
3. Imagination is more powerful than knowledge when dealing with your own mind or the mind of another.
4. Once an idea has been accepted by the mind, it remains until it is replaced by another stronger idea.
5. Each suggestion acted upon creates less opposition to repeated similar suggestions.
6. An emotionally triggered symptom tends to cause an organic change if continued long enough.
7. When dealing with the unconscious mind and its functions, the GREATER the conscious effort, the LESS the unconscious response.

Mind/Body Healing and Traumatic Stress

Medical statistics show us that happy people become sick less often and that when they do get sick, they recover faster.  We know that stress makes you sick and that over 70% of primary care physician visits have underlying emotional causes.  Most family doctors, pediatricians and emergency room providers lack the time and training to diagnose the emotional roots of their patients’ physical and mental symptoms.
The aftermath of 9-11 makes this a particularly serious issue.  Over 44% of the United States’ population experienced substantial traumatic stress symptoms.  For many, symptoms have been long lasting and are reinforced by ongoing reports of war, political strife and terrorist attacks around the world.
To make matters worse, the range of symptoms is so broad that it is easy to stay caught up in  symptoms without ever considering the real cause.  Timing is often the key to considering causes.  When chronic emotional and physical conditions occur within three months to two years after traumatic events, it’s time to consider post traumatic stress.

Traumatic Stress Symptoms

• Excessive Anger
• Depression• Anxiety
• Fears
• Difficulty Focusing
• Sleeplessness
• Nightmares
• Flashbacks
• Hypersensitivity to a variety of stimuli
• Hyper vigilance
• Difficulty relating to others
• Chronic pain and illness
• Feelings of hopelessness and being worthless

Traumatic stress can be defined as the repetitive cycling of negative messages and feelings.  This type of stress vividly demonstrates the Rules of the Mind. The symptoms caused by traumatic stress are signals to get your attention.  We need to become aware when we are being harmed by those “stuck” emotions.
Few professionals are trained to make that connection and even fewer are trained to create relief and healing.  Although the numbers of newly trained professionals grow daily, they fall dangerously short of our need.  Most sufferers end up with traditional medical responses which primarily include medication to cover up their symptoms or talk therapy which has been shown to provide minimal benefit.
Most negative emotional and physical responses are a form of traumatic emotional stress. Our experiences, good and bad, become the foundation of our beliefs.  Doctors and scientists have long known that mechanisms exist that can turn our  beliefs into an agent of biological change.  Dr. Northrup finally gave us the scientific explanation of those mechanisms.

To truly heal, we need to accomplish two important things:

          1.  Reduce the intensity of negative emotions.
          2.  Re-educate the destructive beliefs (which reside in the unconscious) and make them constructive.

Very few individuals are able to complete these two stages of healing without professional help.

Advanced Neural-Release Technique Leads to True Healing

Neural Release Therapy (NRT), an advanced form of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), is already internationally recognized as the leading mechanism to minimize and process the intense emotions associated with traumatic stress.  Chosen by the FBI to treat the survivors of the Oklahoma City Bombing, this technique has been heralded by such notables as Bessel van der Kolk MD, Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine, Herbert Fensterheim, PhD, Cornell University, and Steven Lazrove, MD, Yale University.
Neural Release Therapy (NRT) enhances the natural processing mechanism that occurs during dream sleep, called R.E.M. (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep.  Our dreams, confusing as they may seem, actually help us to work through our pain and frustrations to gain a healthier perspective.  Small issues usually get resolved, but tough, traumatic issues get stuck.  The emotions surrounding those issues like sadness, fear, frustration and anger, cycle round and round interfering with normal healthy living.  This is called post traumatic stress.   NRT uses the same processing mechanism of dream sleep, but makes it much more powerful and effective.  The processing mechanism is enhanced through a series of eye movements as simple as rapid blinking while you look in specific directions and listen to relevant audio sounds and verbal phrases.   Relief usually begins after the first experience of NRT.

You can take charge of your physical and emotional body,
when you learn how to substitute constructive beliefs for destructive ones.

But it’s not enough to reduce the intensity of harmful emotions attached to our traumatic memories.  Traumas upset our delicate balance of healthy beliefs and ultimately our sense of self worth or self esteem.  A low sense of self worth can translate into a host of beliefs which interfere with healthy daily living.  Scientists know that those unhealthy beliefs express themselves in a wide range of symptoms including anxiety (including panic attacks), depression, phobias, severe stress and a host of physical disorders including irritable bowel syndrome, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, a depressed immune system and more.  In order to achieve true and permanent healing, not just hiding symptoms, we must reach and rehabilitate the underlying harmful  beliefs.  We do this by tapping into our Psychoneuro-immunology System.                             Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is now the official scientific term for mind/body healing.  Doctors and scientists have long known  mechanisms exist that can turn a belief into an agent of biological change.  Unfortunately, most doctors still diminish that power with the term placebo and few have had the opportunity or desire to learn how to tap into our beliefs to create actual healing.   The mechanism to tap into your unconscious has been in existence for over 4,000 years and has been approved by the American Medical Association since 1958.  That mechanism has been subject to widespread misrepresentation and misunderstanding which has discouraged professional training and its aggressive use with those who need it most.
Many have attempted to introduce less sophisticated approaches and giving them new names like guided visualization, relaxation, biofeedback, and old names like meditation. These have all been an attempt to avoid going through the education process for the real and only mechanism for rapid and permanent healing, hypnosis and clinical hypnotherapy.
You may feel uncomfortable with the idea of hypnosis.  Thanks to Hollywood movies and spy thrillers, you probably don’t know that hypnosis is a natural state that we are in frequently throughout the day.  Like when you daydream while you’re driving and miss your turn or can’t remember the last fifteen minutes of your drive because you were too busy going over all the things you wanted to get done when you got home.
The hypnotic mechanism of healing is the same mechanism that makes you laugh or cry when a movie is funny or sad.  Hypnosis is nothing more than daydreaming and clinical hypnotherapy is daydreaming with a “professional tour guide.”  You always know what is happening, you are always in control, and you can always choose to stop.  Healing is rapid, easy and permanent.
